HCDSN Adult Development Center

In this program, individuals work in a variety of environments ranging from a supervised, sheltered workshop setting where they learn basic work and self-help skills, to community-based work in a supervised, group setting. All training is geared toward maximizing the potential for achievement, independent living, and possible competitive employment.

Two Adult Development Centers are available in Horry County -- one in Conway at the main administrative building, and another in Loris on Highway 917.

There is a waiting list for this service.

As a part of the Adult Development Center program, services are available to the community. The individuals who work in these areas are well trained, and hiring them provides them useful employment as well as giving the community a source of high quality services at competitive prices.

The Horry County ADC workshop has had some exiting changes the past few months.  We have started two new contracts within the community.  The first being a janitorial contract with the SOS-Autism clinic in Surfside.  Both staff and consumers are very excited about the contract.

The second new contract is located down in the North Myrtle Beach area at Goodwill Industries.  We are extremely excited about the opportunity to partnership with this company as this makes the third Goodwill Industries store we have a working relationship with.

The ADC workshop is very excited about being selected to participate in a pilot project with 4 other boards to attend Positive behavior supports, and promoting quality teaching and activity engagement training.  Five upper management staff will attend this training to help expand employment and meaningful activities to people with an intellectual disability or related disability.

The Community Service program continues to provide supports to individuals to improve social skills and independent living skills.  The participants in the community program enjoy such activities as therapeutic horse back riding, visiting nursing homes during holidays handing out greeting cards and caroling, participating in exercise programs at a local recreation center, visiting local libraries, and restaurants to interact with people in their community and become familiar with resources available to them.

The HCDSN day program offers opportunity to it’s participants to access employment skills training, on-the-the job training, receive a paycheck, experience contact to resources within the community, and develop lasting friendships.
