Expanding Hope - Roberta Bryan
By Dr. Vince Mosley “Overcoming Barriers”
“Roberta is loved by everyone she works
with. We are all
inspired by her determination and encouraging words.” – Cindy
Kauffmann, Store Manager
For Roberta Bryan, Goodwill was an important
step in getting her life back after suffering a spinal cord injury
in a motorcycle accident in 2001.
As a result of the accident, Roberta’s body was partially paralyzed but her mind and spirit remained strong and she grew more determined with each passing day. After seven years of physical therapy, Roberta decided that she was ready to get back to work, and with the support of Vocational Rehabilitation, she rolled through the doors of goodwill.

Roberta works a flexible twelve-hour week schedule sorting and processing clothing donations in the backroom of Goodwill’s retail store in Myrtle Beach. Always encouraging to others, her sweet disposition and upbeat attitude inspire those around her to be the best that they can be. Roberta continues to make strides with he physical therapy. Since coming to work at Goodwill, she has managed to build her endurance and is able to stand and walk for short periods of time.
Store Manager, Cindy Kauffmann, described Roberta as someone who is always thinking of others and never about herself. She plays an active role in her church and her community and is quick to volunteer to help others in need. Roberta is thankful to Goodwill for helping her to overcome the barriers she faced as a result of the accident. We believe that Roberta’s abilities are endless!
